Enter a world of the underwater wonders. Explore the nooks and crannies of coral reefs. Meet multi-coloured marine life. Enjoy the unique opportunity to discover ship wrecks dating back to the18th and 19th centuries, as well as some sunk more recently to create artificial reefs.

Mauritius is nearly completely encircled by a barrier of coral reefs - home to many sponges, sea anemones and a variety of multi-coloured fish such as the damselfis, trumpet and boxfish not to forget the playful clown (well known from "Finding Nemo"), as well as the Mauritian scorpion with its unique orange colour. These wonderful creatures and vivid undersea vegetation provide a magnificent show for divers.

Visibility in the lagoon and reef are best during the months of May through October. November to April is a better time for offshore dives.Surface water temperatures range from 22 to 27 degrees centigrade. A tropical wetsuit (Shortty) is advisable. Wetsuits are available at the dive centre. Most of the dive equipment is included in the dive rates.

Itinerary

Here is a sample of some dive sites in this package. Remember to bring your certification as proof.

First on our list is the Shark Flats site. It requires an  "Advanced Open Water" level certification. As the name suggests this is a flat site at 30 m surrounded by cliffs and coral projections up to 20 m. The current is mild. Visibility of 25 to 30m makes it perfect for a multilevel dive.  

Here, divers can see various species of sharks, specifically bull sharks. Pelagic fish such as schools of barracuda and ttrevally  among others often pass through this site. Numerous varieties of soft corals make the conditions perfect for parrot fish and other reef fish.

The Sea Fan Valley site requires an "Advanced Open Water" level certification as well. Currents are mild at this site and visibility is 20 to 30m.

Various types of giant sea fans grow along this cliff. The coral create spectacular scenery which hides numerous exotic fish and crustaceans. With a multilevel dive starting at 28 m and going up to16 m it is possible to see schools of black chub, blue striped snapper, king fish and sting rays. Dolphin can sometimes be seen as well.

The Castle mandates an "Open water" level certificate. This dive spot is really interesting and often exciting besides being easy. There is no current and visibility is 20 to 30m.

The dive starts at the bottom of 18m and goes up 10m on the top of the reef. There is a small sand bottomed ditch at the top. Channels weave in and out between coral outcrops and overhangs creating a labyrinth like atmosphere.White tip reef sharks are often seen sleeping here under low outcrops. Snake eels, moray eels, sting rays, crustaceans and groups of black chub fish beside a diversity of corals abound at this site.
